ATTENDANCE INITIATIVE FUND
2025-26 Project Funding Application
The Attendance Initiative Fund supports school and community-led projects that promote student attendance and engagement in Yukon. Each year, funding is made available to all Yukon schools through Every Student, Every Day, the Government of Yukon, and other private sector and community partners.
Who Can Apply?
The following individuals or groups are eligible to apply for funding:
- Schools, teachers, School Councils, and School Boards
- Yukon First Nations governments or organizations
- Community organizations and student/parent clubs
Available Funding
For the 2025–26 school year, $200,000 will be distributed among successful applicants. Schools and organizations may apply for funding for one or more projects, up to a maximum of $20,000. Partial funding may be awarded depending on the number of applications received.
Successful applicants will be announced in May 2025.
If submitting multiple initiatives, applications must be submitted together and ranked in order of priority.
Funding Categories
Eligible projects should focus on one or more of the following:
- Focusing on attendance issues – Initiatives that address barriers to daily school attendance and encourage student engagement by working with local communities, families, and caregivers.
- Small kitchen infrastructure – Funding for kitchen equipment and small appliances that support schools in providing food to students as part of broader attendance and engagement initiatives.
- Acting to improve attendance – Materials, equipment, and resources designed to improve attendance (items not provided by Yukon Education).
- Monitoring and adjusting current attendance initiatives – Tools and/or research to evaluate and improve existing attendance programs.
- Creating communication projects or products – Projects that help students and schools share information about attendance issues.
- First Nations Reconciliation and Engagement – Projects that incorporate First Nations ways of knowing, doing, and being to promote school attendance, in alignment with the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Calls to Action.
- Science, Technology, Trades, Engineering, Arts, and Math (STTEAM) – Initiatives that provide students with real-life learning experiences to improve attendance and engagement.
- Mental Health and Wellness Initiatives – Activities that support student well-being, creating a positive school environment where students feel safe, supported, and motivated to attend school.
Project Impact
Successful projects typically:
- Are community-based
- Encourage student engagement
- Help build stronger relationships
- Are evidence-based and linked to measurable outcomes
Important Notes
The fund does not support:
- Cash awards or rewards-based attendance programs
- Salaries or job positions
- Projects that do not directly support attendance improvement
- Initiatives prohibited under Yukon Education policies or legislation
- Multi-year funding requests (projects should be designed for one-time implementation)
- Large capital purchases or infrastructure projects
